Foot and ankle issues can reduce your quality of life and even your ability to work, but patients in the Chicago area have access to some of the best-trained podiatrists in the world. The Scholl Foot & Ankle Center is a clinical teaching site for the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, which has educated approximately one-third of the nation's podiatric physicians.

Things to know about the Scholl Foot & Ankle Center:

• Our podiatric physicians are at the forefront of new treatments and technologies, using many of the latest advancements in diagnostic technology, including digital radiography, in-office ultrasound, and advanced peripheral vascular (Doppler) diagnostic equipment. 
• We specialize in diabetic wound care and partnering with diabetic patients on a plan for overall wellbeing.
• The Center houses a laboratory for analyzing gait, and a fully equipped operating room where we are able to provide intravenous conscious sedation (allowing the patient comfort while awake) for surgical procedures on the foot and ankle.
• Research is an important part of the RFU Health Clinics, including the Scholl Foot & Ankle Center, with research activities occurring on an on-going basis. All research activities and studies undertaken at the Clinics must have been approved by both the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science as well as the Clinics administration. Descriptions of all current studies are posted within the Clinics. The majority of the research is initiated through the Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research (CLEAR), after they receive IRB approval.
• Like all medical education, clinical education for podiatric medical students involves some direct patient contact. A portion of the clinical training for second and third year students at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine takes place in the Health Clinics, at our North Chicago location. This is done under direct attending supervision, and students are continuously supervised when providing patient care. All supervising clinicians hold faculty appointments within the Dr. William School College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.
